Our Library

At Langley Park School for Boys, we have a purpose-designed library that all students are encouraged to enjoy. The library offers a welcoming and safe environment for reading, research and further study. The library has a diverse range of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, manga and reference material, with stock selected from student recommendations and requests as well as reading lists provided by teaching staff. A small number of computers are also available for students to use for independent study.

We offer an array of events, competitions and author visits, creating experiences and opportunities to motivate students to become lifelong readers. Every year, our Book Club can meet with their counterparts from other schools in our Trust as take part in the prestigious CILIP Carnegie and Greenway Shadowing Awards. This Book Club also meets bi-weekly to discuss either a book they are reading individually or the group novel we read together. Further events include celebrating World Book Day, enjoying author or poet visits, taking part in the National Literacy Trust’s National Reading Champions Quiz every year, and visiting the central library in Bromley for their annual secondary school's quiz.

Students can browse the library catalogue online and access resources by click here.

Student will need to login using their Langley username and password to be able to view their account, reserve and renew their books.

Reading & Literacy

LPSB subscribe to Renaissance Star Reader and Accelerated Reader.

Star Reading allows teachers to identify learning gaps in reading, monitor progress and inform practice activities.

Accelerated Reader is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice, motivating students to read for pleasure. With Accelerated Reader, a student reads a book, takes a quick online quiz, and gets immediate feedback. Within school the students are set half termly competitions to see which English class can read the most words and win prizes for their effort and hard work.

Students can access Accelerated Reader here.

Students are set homework on ‘Bedrock Learning’ to support them to develop their vocabulary, reading, and comprehension skills. Bedrock provides pupils with the language and literacy knowledge they need to boost their academic performance. A link to this website can be found here.
